Scrum: Events & Artefacts

 



As we all know that Agile methodology states that industry adopting the agile software development methodology with the intention of the delivery of the right product in incremental approach faster and frequent manner.

So discussing today more on the important ceremonies and artifacts of Agile Scrum.

Sprints a buzzword in Scrum – So what does it means?

Frequent delivery of the small chunks of the features or functionalities of the product is shorter duration is known as Sprint. Duration can be max of one month but shorter like a week or 2 ; it depends upon the nature of the product or project.

Tips – Sprint is the box where ideas turns into values.

Let’s understand the types of the Scrum Events and its output ; yes artefacts.




Scrum has following events which need to be planned with proper time boxing to facilitate the business requirements developed and delivered frequently with values to business.

 Sprint Planning  Daily Scrum Call |  Sprint Review | Sprint Restrospective

Backlog Grooming – Backlog grooming is the very important and continuous event which is totally owned by the product owner and delegated team member. In this process the new and existing lying requirements are getting proper detailing of the requirements with max possible extent along with acceptance criteria, return of investements in other words benefits , expected impacted stakeholders or the features . This way product backlog is getting groomed and become ready for the sprint planning once it reached to DOR – definition of ready state.

 Now giving brief of each Scrum events followed by artefacts.

Sprint Planning – It is the event or scheduled call where list of user stories are aligned for the current sprint or for the upcoming sprint basis the business priorities and business critical requirements.There are also several factors considered during the sprint planning. This call is targeted to scheduled for max 2 hour per week.

Daily Scrum Call – This call is scheduled daily for 15 min time box where developer are supposed to highlights any impediments which may cause the delay development to scrum master and product owner also notifies.

Sprint Review – During sprint review scrum team came to know the genuine feedbacks from the stake holder on the developed and tested products whether the asked or requested product/features are meeting the expectations or not. If have any valuable feedback then again same is taken back to product backlog and again taken in next sprint if priority is still allowed.

Sprint Retrospective – After sprint this call is considered as focused on process correction and conclusion call which reviews the entire sprint duration and assists developer to conclude what process is supposed to be kept doing and stop activities if impacting project deliverable qualities and time. And on other hand suggested to start new things or processes which  can yield major output with less efforts or can say a perfect process corrections.

 

Artefacts in brief ( PB – Product Backlog , Sprint Backlog , Increments)

Product Backog – This is a repository of all new items which are coming in as new requirements . PB is complete ownership of the product owner. Product owner is accountable to groom this backlog and do the proper story mapping as per business priorites.

Sprint Backlog – The set of the user stories which are selected for the development and deliveries basis the proposed spring goal suggested by the product owner. Product owner can only propose the goal but scrum team specially developer can set the goal basis the team and resource availabilities.

Increments – The final tested developed product or functionalities which is ready post the  last sprint and stake holder also given the green signal as feedback and hence release alignment is the next stage for this.
